Though he was never contracted to be in the movie, our dog, Chewy, did his
very best to try to get into every single shot, every single day. As far as we
know, he was cut out of every scene.
Attack of the Cattle.
Occasionally, during the middle of a scene, a herd of cattle would find its way
into the shot. These weren't the high strung, running-of-the-bulls type. They were
really quite mellow animals, so we just had to do a little waiting and a little
encouraging and they would be on their way.
We used this little white board to mark each shot with the scene
number and the shot number, so that later we could more easily
align them in the editing process.
Sometimes a mistake would be made, and a
little corrective work would have to be done
with the board.
Birthdays are always important, so we decided to make a note
of them whenever they occurred during the shoot.
Like with many things in life, you have to know
when to stop.
Lounging.
Sleeping.
Jogging.
Thinking (He's a big thinker.)
Trying to render First-Aid.
A keen eye quickly spots the 800 lb. animal.
After a short talk, cow and human come to an
agreement and go their separate ways.
Finally, the crew realizes that the camera is still running. Good job, crew.

Here we forgot to wear the jacket, so we had to reshoot it.
This was simply a clerical error on the board.
Sometimes we would forget to mark the scene before we shot it, so we would
have to mark it after, with this design.
Also, you will notice the heart in recognition of Valentine's Day.
Here's a reminder to put the turkey in the oven. Sometimes
shooting would get in the way of lunch.
